What comedian Melanie Bracewell is into right now

December 18, 2020

Depending on your age, and media habits, you may know Melanie Bracewell from her appearances on 7 Days and The Project, or her TikTok impression of Jacinda Ardern.

The Auckland-based comedian and writer went viral earlier this year with her impersonation of the PM - the Guardian and BBC even covered it. Mel shares a few favourite things for summer, from Blush Rosé to Jazz Apples...

PS5

Look, I know this is a flex even mentioning the fact I managed to nab one of these, but I love to brag so here we go. What a machine. All my friends laughed at me when I said the controller feels like sand when you walk on sand. No one is laughing now.

Brancott Estate Blush Rosé, $13.99

A few weeks ago I didn’t know what a ‘Blush’ Rosé was. I assumed it was wine with makeup in it. I was wrong, Brancott’s is deliciously light, and not super sweet. Better yet, I like to describe her as one of those old friends from school that you see rarely but when you do, they try to sell you into her pyramid scheme – you know? I bring one of these to every summer dinner party (yes, I get invited to summer dinner parties thank you).

Simpsons World The Ultimate Episode Guide: Seasons 1–20

This is one of my favourite things I’ve ever owned. I actually bought it for a partner for Christmas but then we broke up so I kept it, yeehaw! It’s a rundown of every episode in the first 20 seasons of The Simpsons, and I love just turning to a random page and remembering the greatest hits of the best TV show.

Sara Lee sticky date pudding

This is a big one for me. Did you know these are getting harder and harder to find? They’re slowly being replaced in most supermarkets with a far inferior ‘Butterscotch and Apple Pudding’. Please, Sara if you’re reading this, please keep making the sticky date.

Jazz Apple

I know, another food one… But I need everyone to know these are the best apples you can buy. If Santa brings me a Jazz Apple sack for Christmas, I’d be happy. They’re always consistently juicy and blow Red Delicious out of the water.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask, $85

I lost my tube of this recently and I wanted to cry. This is well worth every penny if you have my skin type (dry, lifeless, sad, depressed). I don’t claim to be a skinfluencer, but this is my ‘holy grail’.
