What rapper Vayne is buying, and listening to

Vayne (Ngāti Raukawa) pays homage to her personal journey of resilience and growth with her just released debut EP ‘Gutta Girl’. The Māori rapper has come a long way since her debut music video for WAITWAIT! last year, where she was styled by the Hunting Ground Store team in fluorescent yellow overalls and a Von Dutch cap. Her new EP’s title is a reflection of that evolution. In one of her earliest interviews the artist explained that, "Vayne is like the artist version of me. gutttagirl is the past me that will always be there. Anyone who knows me as gutttagirl is privileged."

With songs ‘Ghetto Flowers’ and ‘I’ll Be Fine’, Vayne has been transparent about past mental health struggles and the hardships necessary in shaping her character as one of Aotearoa’s hottest rappers.

She is cool with cool taste…so we asked her to share her latest shopping favourites.

Air Jordan 1 Retro Court Purple
My first pair of Jordans. I entered a raffle to purchase these through Loaded during lockdown. It’s not easy to get your hands on a pair like these as they’re limited edition, though you can buy them for re-sale on StockX.

F*ck Nails manicure

My friend Jacelyn recently started up her nail business in Auckland. It’s safe to say she’s the best nail tech in Aotearoa. Her services range anywhere from a simple manicure to flames & crystals for you AND your man.

Ti Ora Tea
I can’t live without a cup of tea, PERIOD. My favourite flavour is Green Tea with Ginger, Lemongrass & Kawakawa. I usually drink it with a fresh slice of ginger and some honey.

Karl Kani
An ICONIC black owned streetwear brand. The first to develop the baggy jean concept which you may have seen rappers like Tupac, Nas and Biggie rocking back in the ’90s - as well as being the first urban fashion company to employ an all-black sales force. For my ‘Uh Huh’ music video, I paired their Concrete Rose jacket with the matching Bury Me a G cargos as well as the Redemption bodysuit.

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer
I can’t complete a makeup look without this lip gloss in the shade “Fenty Glow”. Shimmery rose nude vibes, perfect for tan skin. Caution: will cause lips to become extremely voluptuous, juicy and kissable!

Ayafuya earrings
Another lockdown purchase. I found this small brand called Ayafuya scrolling on Instagram and fell in love with their “Blue Wave” earrings. So unique and pretty.
