Our favourite looks from the latest new-season collections

In another life, February 2022 would have seen the local industry finally mark 20 years of New Zealand Fashion Week - a celebration of the local fashion industry and all the creative talent within it, from fashion designers to models, stylists to makeup artists and so much more.

Omicron dashed those dreams, with the event cancelled for the third time two weeks ago. When the news of the cancellation was announced, the Ensemble team was devastated for those involved, particularly Dame Pieter Stewart and her team who have worked on this event for 20 years.

We asked ourselves: how can we use our platform to uplift and support the local fashion industry, which has been impacted by Covid in various ways that go beyond the cancellation of its biggest event (lockdown retail closures, production issues impacted by lack of workers in the country and significant supply chain delays).

While some designers who were set to show at NZFW this week have held their own solo digital presentations, we saw an opportunity to work collaboratively - as an ensemble - with a variety of local brands and creatives behind the scenes, to produce a fresh online experience that was a showcase of New Zealand fashion, free and accessible to all across Aotearoa - and shoppable, so people can purchase for the season ahead.

The result was The Ensemble Edit, a special digital fashion show featuring new-season looks from some of Aotearoa’s top emerging and established fashion designers, Harris Tapper, Juliette Hogan, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Kowtow, Lost and Led Astray, Papa Clothing, Rachel Mills, Ruby, Thom Morison, Twenty-seven Names and Zambesi, with accessories from Bronwyn, Deadly Ponies, Georgia Jay and Mi Piaci. All items featured in the digital presentation are available to click-to-shop.

Creative directed by Zoe Walker Ahwa and Rebecca Wadey and styled and cast by Rob Tennent, The Ensemble Edit features some of Aotearoa's coolest models and talent walking amongst the 'Kōwhaiwhai' exhibition that has just opened at Tāmaki Makaurau’s Tim Melville Gallery. A beautiful collision of New Zealand fashion, art and creative talent.
