Getting ready with Morgana O'Reilly

When we conceived the Ensemble Supper Club series and asked Morgana O’Reilly to be our inaugural guest, we knew we wanted to give her the opportunity to look glam – should she be keen. We loved the looks she served at the L.A. premiere of The White Lotus, with makeup by Amber D and styling by Ensemble contributing editor Dan Ahwa, and the HBO Sydney media junket.

So we called in the big guns – Dan and Lou Rae, one of our favourite local makeup artists – to glam Morgana up and transform her from the shorts-wearing policewoman she’d been playing all day (she came straight from set of her latest project) into Queen Morgana for night, ready to hold court.

As soon as we mentioned the Supper Club to Dan he knew exactly what he wanted to dress Morgana in: a midnight blue Juliette Hogan silk dress, custom made just for her (if you love what you see, we recommend this dress from Juliette for having the same effortless elegance). Morgana paired it with jewellery from Charlotte Penman, including the Granada bracelet, Olympia studs and Byzantia ring, and Kathyrn Wilson’s Polly heels.

Morgana’s face was prepped using Emma Lewisham’s Illuminating Oil cleanser, a luxurious oil to milk formulation that delivers double cleansing duty while providing a radiantly dewy complexion.

Next, Lou massaged in a couple of pumps of the Supernatural Vitale Elixir (it’s been described as ‘Botox in a bottle’, but thankfully Morgana’s face remained wonderfully expressive throughout the evening). Her eyes were prepared for makeup with the Skin Reset Eye Creme and her skin hydrated with Supernatural Day Crème.

Morgana recalled being introduced to Emma Lewisham by the makeup artist on The White Lotus, and loving it. The piece de resistance of her skincare on this occasion was the new Sunceutical SPF50 Mineral Glow Serum. This luxurious, lightly tinted base acts as both hardworking skincare and makeup, meaning only a hint of foundation and colour is needed to take the look into full glam.

That foundation came in the form of a light touch of Charlotte Tilbury’s Beautiful Skin, with cheek highlights courtesy of HourGlass’ Ambient Lighting Palette and a dab of Mecca Max Off Duty Contour stick for light contour.

On Morgana’s eyes Lou used Charlotte Tilbury Palette Of Beautifying Eye Trends in ‘digital lilac’ (purple for Ensemble, obviously) as both shadow and liner, before applying a coat of ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara.

Morgana’s lips were lined with Mecca Max Pout Pencil in ‘lavish’ and finished with Westman Atelier Lip Suede Matte Lipstick in ‘petal’. A spritz of Bal D’Afrique by Byredo completed the vibe.

Options! Morgana ended up going for the green suede pair. Photo / Karen Ishiguro

Morgana ran her fingers through her recently cut bob (by Lauren Gunn at Auckland salon colleen) and her transformation from cop to vamp was complete. More Michelle Monaghan’s Jaclyn than Morgana’s dear sweet Pam.
