Watching the first weekend of Coachella from the couch on the other side of the world, there was a lot to unpack. Aside from Gwen Stefani and Olivia Rodgrigo’s nostalgic Bathwater duet, Lana del Rey arriving on the back of a motorcycle, and Tyler the Creator’s energetic blinder of a set, there were So. Many. Good. Beauty looks. From Chappell Roan’s dreamy 80s punk makeup to Lil Uzi Vert’s red hair and glitter blush, it was festival beauty at its best.
Below, a round up of our favourite looks, with some pro tips on how to recreate them.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan ate in this punk, New Romantics 80s-inspired look. It’s no surprise the person behind this was Donni Davy, the lead makeup artist on Euphoria and founder of Half Magic beauty. For this look, Davy used a mix of her Face Gems, Glitterpuck pressed fairy dust and Glitterpill eyeliner in Microcosm.
Sabrina Carpenter
Sabrina is giving modern-day Brigitte Bardot with this voluminous blowout – her signature fluffy bangs have never looked better. Hair stylist Scott King attributes this to a very specific tool: Shark Beauty’s Express Touch Up Brush attachment – a round brush that creates face-framing soft bends. It’s all about the hair, but it wouldn’t be a Sabrina look without a blinding highlighter. We’re predicting she will launch her own…
Lana del Rey
Speaking of blinding highlighter, LDR took it back to 2012 with this iconic Hollywood Lana glam, down to the light auburn shade of her Born to Die era. If you want to recreate the look, Lana’s hair stylist, Anna Cofone, shared exactly what to ask/aim for: “Deep side parting, smooth, hydrated Hollywood waves with volume”.
Raye
British singer Raye’s look was also a nod to Old Hollywood glamour, with plenty of lashes and volume. Glossy vintage waves, a 60s cut-crease and dark red nails matched the moody jazz-club vibe of her set.
Gwen Stefani and Olivia Rodrigo
If this surprise inter-generational duet didn’t send shivers of joy down your spine, surely their matching mohawk buns did.
Lil Uzi Vert
Now this is a creative use of ‘festival makeup’. Lil Uzi Vert vogued the house down in a red glitter blush, with a dyed red buzzcut to match. The crowd loved it.
