What Karla Goodwin of Bluebells Cakery is into right now

December 16, 2020

Karla Goodwin opened the doors of her first Bluebells Cakery in Auckland in 2012, offering nostalgic-inspired cakes, cupcakes and sweet treats. Today, her business has three locations, including the latest in Commercial Bay, offering high tea, kids parties, wedding catering and more. She and her team have also been working hard on festive treats for the season, from a Rudolph cake to Xmas tree cookies - great last minute gifts! Karla shares a few things she’s loving right now…

Veja white Sneakers, $169, from Father Rabbit

I live in flats and more often than not, in sneakers. I’ve had my eye on Veja sneakers for a while now and just couldn’t resist the all-white version. They’re stocked at Father Rabbit and various other boutiques around New Zealand. I’ve also got my eye on the mini version for my 3-year-old too - they’re super cute in a white, red and yellow colourway.

Kingsland Sushi

Our lovely office manager Trish got me hooked on Kingsland Sushi’s Tofu donburi. It’s honestly the best donburi I’ve ever had! And it’s perfect that it’s only a skip and a jump from our Kingsland café, so when the office girls and I need to get some fresh air, we often walk across for our donburi or sushi fix. The miso is superb too.

Papinelle PJ set, $130

Since we opened our store in Commercial Bay earlier this year, I’ve been perusing the stores (quite!) frequently. My partner Ryan bought me some lovely pyjamas from Papinelle and I’ve recently purchased another lovely pair of their silk/cotton mix Cherry Blossom pyjamas. They feel really luxurious and put all my other sleepwear to shame.

Harker Herbals remedies

I love the herbal remedies by Harker Herbals. They’re in liquid form, which is great because I loathe swallowing pills! I often mix the Vitamin C and Immune Boost with some hot water for a lovely soothing drink. Having little ones who pick up germs here and there, it’s important I keep my immunity up. They’re available in most chemists and they’ve just recently opened a flagship store in Commercial Bay too.

Emma Bass

When I stumbled across the floral photographer Emma Bass’s Instagram page during the first lockdown, I fell instantly in love! I love floral prints, and there’s something quite nostalgic about her pieces and the drama she creates. I’m yet to own a piece, but her Insta-feed is enough to keep me satisfied for the time being. Hopefully Santa will be kind to me this year!
